Our name is drawn from pioneering examples of global commerce, where early industrialists took North American enterprise to the globe to generate outsized returns. On the Kennebec riverbank around Augusta, Maine, the Plymouth Colony established the Cushnoc Trading Post, profiting so handsomely from Maine’s natural wealth that they were able to pay off their debt to their English sponsors by trading furs with Europe. Meanwhile, on the West Coast, the Columbia River basin drew Russians beginning in 1648, followed by the British and eventually the Astor-backed Pacific Fur Company. Like these early entrepreneurs, Augusta Columbia's mission is to identify great companies and to help them grow into worldwide leaders.
